Raw Thoughts - Children and TechAre We Losing the Ability to Be Bored?I've been spending a lot of time lately reading about children, technology, and the brain. The more I learn, the more I find myself thinking about how different childhood looks today than it did even twenty years ago. Today's kids have almost unlimited access to stimulation. They can watch a video, play a game, text a friend, or scroll through social media in seconds. Their brains are developing in a world that rarely asks them to wait. Now, I'm not anti-technology. I use it every day, and there are so many incredible benefits. But I do wonder what happens when children don't have enough opportunities to be bored, to solve problems on their own, to use their imagination, or simply sit with their thoughts. Some of our best ideas, creativity, and resilience grow out of those quieter moments. Maybe the conversation isn't about getting rid of technology. Maybe it's about making sure our children have enough experiences away from screens to develop the skills they'll need for life. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
